Just a week after The Pirate Bay made its controversial return to the internet another popular peer-to-peer torrent site has been shut down.
According to reports, Kickass is gone and now shows an error message when users attempt to access the site.
Kickass had seen its popularity rise after The Pirate Bay’s seven week absence – becoming the number one torrent site on the web.
But it seems this sudden rise to fame may have led to its downfall as the higher traffic to the site appears to have grabbed the attention of the authorities.
Kickass is currently registered in Somali, which was seen as a safe haven for the illegal torrent site to run from.
Some experts say it could return with a new domain name, but today's closure will be seen as a huge win for copyright enforcers.
The peer-to-peer site is already blocked in the UK and this latest closure could spell the beginning of the end for torrent sites.
Since its return The Pirate Bay hasn't had a easy ride.
The site has faced issues with fake torrents a lack of uploads and even the accusation that it’s being run by the FBI.
UPDATE: Kickass.so remains down but it seems the site has returned to its former kickass.to URL.
This address has been targeted for removal before so it remains to be seen how long it will stay live.
